What is the best anti-virus program?
Many people ask me, what is the best anti-virus? To answer this question honestly, there isn't one. Or should I say there is not just one.
There are many different anti-virus programs out on the market right now. You can find many articles and reviews on the internet, in magazines, and in a variety of stores. Most of the places will lie to you about witch is the best mainly to sell you something. Some will give you an honest review and or opinion.
I am that some. Let me explain, while most anti-virus software is the best in their own right the problems lye in the fact that anti-virus software is not the only thing you need. Not to mention that anti-virus software is lets say a little contradictory to its name.
Let me clear up any confusion you may be having. Anti-virus is mainly meant to manage and maintain viruses and is not guarantied to stop a virus. Which is a misconception and mistake that allot of people have and make. While it does help protect you against many forms of malicious software it is mainly designed for viruses.
You will also find available various other forms of anti-virus software such as internet security and the like. This software normally is a little better then the basic anti-virus software and will help protect you against more types of malicious code, it will also include a means to backup your computer in some cases. That is always a plus.
But using this form of software still has its disadvantages. The reason I say this is there are viruses and other forms of malicious code that will attack your anti-virus software so using an all in one software for protection would leave your computer unprotected should you happen to become infected by one of these types of malicious code.
So in my experience the best form of protection is from three types of software combined. These types are one anti-virus program, one anti-spyware or anti-malware program, and one firewall program. I prefer this software to be from different manufactures because if there is a exploit for one of my protection programs I still have two lines of defense.
Anti-virus software tense to run automatic whether it is a free or paid version, but keep in mind that anti-malware and anti-spyware are normally not automatic in the free versions. So you will have to run these scans manually if you choose a free version. Firewalls are normally automatic as well and will normally require input from a user if it detects something it feels is out of the ordinary.
You should always check with the manufacture when selecting third party software to make sure there is no know issues with their software working with another software you choose to use. As not doing so could prove to be hazardous to the operation of your computer and leave you unprotected as well.
Though using protection software in this manner is still not guarantied to protect 100% against malicious software. I find this to be more beneficial in the long run when used properly then most other alternatives.
You should make it a common practice to backup your computer on a regular bases, as well as obtain a backup software to do so if you do not already have one.
