Mac OS X Games - Macintosh, a Viable Platform For Gaming

People have made the argument that one of the drawbacks of buying an Mac is the lack of games available on the platform. If you use your computer mainly for gaming I would agree, but now we are getting more and more Mac games each week.

Another argument is that you pay premium dollars for not-so-good hardware. As we all know, the latest games tend to demand a thing or two of your CPU and graphics card. Apple is known for not adopting the latest tech there. (At least graphics).

We can then conclude that if you want to play the hottest, latest games a Mac is not the best choice for you.

I am a casual gamer, and I don't always play the latest games. I also tend to play games mostly from Blizzard (Diablo, Starcraft, World Of Warcraft). Blizzard have always been true to the Macintosh platform and they will continue to support it. Their games never need the latest hardware so they often run fine on Macs, graphic wise.

Another argument is that the Steam client from Valve is released for Mac OS X. This means that you can play Half-Life 2, Portal and many other games on your Mac. This is definitely a step in the right direction. Even though the games have a few years behind them it doesn't mean they are bad.

This continues to prove that we will get more Mac OS X Games in the future. Developers see the value in providing games for Mac users and in my opinion this will spiral upwards. Who knows what will happen in 2 - 5 years from now?
