Design: As a laptop the HP TouchSmart TX2-1270US looks sleek and compact in corporate gray with a glossy surface finish. Like so many other HP laptops, this laptop looks nice and snazzy with an imprint design on the keyboard chassis and the laptop cover. The main feature of the laptop is that you can rotate the 12.1-inch touch-sensitive screen around and flip it over the keyboard to become a full-fledged tablet PC. While in tablet PC mode the laptop is a bit thicker and heavier than other tablet PCs it only weighs in at 4.6 pounds which is pretty much standard for most laptops of this class.
Specifications: The HP TouchSmart TX2-1270US offers a 12.1" LED-backlit TFT screen with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution which is both bright and clear. Powered by a 2.2GHz AMD Turion X2 mobile processor and armed with 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM the laptop uses a 500GB hard disk drive. The laptop uses an integrated ATI HD Radeon 3200 GPU with 64MB worth of dedicated graphics memory. Connection-wise, the laptop offers a 5-in-1 card reader, three USB ports, one VGA port, one RJ-11 modem port, one Gigabit RJ-45 LAN port and various audio and microphone jacks. Other features include a DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM optical disc drive with LightScribe capabilities as well as SRS Premium Sound Altec Lansing speakers. The laptop uses an 8-cell lithium-ion battery.
Features & Performance: Thankfully the HP TouchSmart TX2-1270US does as advertised in that in tablet mode it can be controlled either by the stylus or through multi-touch gestures. While the swing hinge does allow easy conversion to tablet mode it isn't really strong when placed in laptop mode. However the laptop is still powerful enough to do most tasks including surfing the Internet, handling office applications and writing emails. Audio performance is respectable for the most part. All in all, the HP TouchSmart TX2-1270US offers the same performance of most 12.1-inch laptops but allows you to convert it to a tablet PC for more functionality.
